Start with the package directions

Feeding directions are specific to a food and its recipe. Check the current package for the suggested amount and how it should be measured, then use that as your starting point.

If the label gives an amount by weight, use a kitchen scale or the measuring method it recommends. Keeping the measure consistent makes it easier to follow the same routine from one meal to the next.

Make the routine easy to repeat

Choose a meal pattern that works for your household and follow any feeding instructions supplied with the food. Keep fresh drinking water available alongside meals.

Food needs can differ from one pet to another. Ask your veterinarian for individual guidance if your companion has a health condition, eats a prescribed diet, or needs a feeding plan tailored to them.
